This December, Duke AI Health partnered with the Pratt School of Engineering, the Duke Center for Computational Thinking, the Duke Center for Computational and Digital Health Innovation, and Duke Health to present the fourth Data Science Poster Showcase. Hosted in the atrium of the Fitzpatrick Center for Interdisciplinary Engineering, Medicine and Applied Sciences (FCIEMAS), the Showcase is a recurring semiannual event designed to provide a forum that allows Duke staff, students, trainees, and faculty to highlight their work, research, or class projects, while also gaining experiencing in presenting their projects to a larger audience. Although the showcase centers on research and applications in health data science, it has historically encouraged an expansive and inclusive range of topics.

This year’s event encompassed over 60 posters on topics that included statistics, biomedical informatics, epidemiology, machine learning, implementation science, process engineering, quality improvement, among many others.

Participants from the 2025 Fall Scientific Writing Workshop for Staff were a notable presence at this December’s event, as the workshop is organized around the development and presentation of formal academic posters.

As at past events, the December showcase included a judged contest for outstanding posters. This year’s award for “Best Computational Thinking” went to the Department of Biomedical Engineering’s Paul Hong and Fan Yuan, PhD for their poster titled “Automated Deep Learning High Throughput Screening Workflow for Improving Gene Delivery and Expression in Mammalian Cells.”

Attendees offered thoughtful input on individual posters as well as enthusiastic feedback on the event as a whole, with comments lauding the showcase’s organization, wide array of topics, and opportunities to meet people from across disciplines at Duke and exchange ideas.

  • Special thanks go to the Duke Center for Computational Thinking for their generous support for the printing of showcase posters!
