Shelley Rusincovitch, MMCi, FAMIA

Shelley Rusincovitch, MMCi, FAMIA, is an informaticist and technical leader who specializes in healthcare applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning, data modeling, and data science experiential learning. She has more than 20 years of experience in clinical research including clinical trials, registries, and health system data warehousing and is a Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA).
As one of the original members recruited to join Dr. Robert Califf’s new center for health data science at Duke in 2017, she has since been instrumental in shaping the strategic initiatives, program development, and operations across Duke and its emerging focus on artificial intelligence and machine learning for the betterment of health.
Prior to joining the health data science initiative at Duke, she served as a member of the PCORnet Coordinating Center between 2015–2018. During this time, she led the development of the PCORnet Common Data Model (CDM) across 3 major versions and established and managed the community engagement and collaborative feedback mechanisms, which convened 1,565 people across 46 sessions. Ms. Rusincovitch served as the program manager for the Southeastern Diabetes Initiative (SEDI) Datamart between 2012–2018, developing a platform for monitoring and evaluating population health across sites in 3 states through spatially enabled data architecture and analytics and supporting 15 research protocols and associated substudies. She is an expert in EHR-based computable phenotype development and served as a member of the National Institutes of Health Collaboratory Phenotype, Data Standards, and Data Quality Core from 2013–2015. She has also co-authored 11 scientific manuscripts and 36 conference abstracts.
Ms. Rusincovitch earned her master of management in clinical informatics from Duke University, and also holds a bachelor’s degree in music performance from Miami University and an associate’s degree in applied science (computer programming) from Durham Technical Community College. She currently serves as an adjunct instructor in software and web development at Durham Technical Community College.
